Nikos Angousis: Clarinet & Balkan Music (open to all instruments)

The Balkans have always been a hub of a great variety of distinct and at the same time interconnected cultures; up until today they host a number of rich local musical traditions. Focusing on this multicultural environment, we will approach the special musical interpretative and technical elements from the musics of South-Balkan countries, like Greece, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey and regions as Thrace & Epirus. Through the musical repertory and performance we will identify differences in the musical style as well as common musical codes. The seminar is addressed to wind players, but also to musicians of all instruments who want to get to know the music of the Balkans.

Nikos Angousis is one of the finest clarinet players from Greece, a third-generation musician of the well-known music family Doitsidis from Thrace so his first musical stimuli came from his family environment. Today he is very active teaching and performing in concerts but also traditional dance and festive activities around Greece and Europe.
