Hovhannes Karakhanyan
Hovhannes Karakhanyan was born in Yerevan (Armenia) in 1987. Since he was very young, Hovhannes has been in contact with the world of music. His family loves music, and live music has always been played in their home. His parents are not professional musicians, but his father plays the accordion excellently, and his uncle is a professional accordionist.
For two years during his childhood, his family and he lived in Moscow, where he attended school, but they eventually returned to Yerevan, where he continued his studies. At the early age of 11, he enrolled in elementary music school. Later, he continued his studies in a specialized music school and completed his higher education at the Conservatory. He studied and specialized in wind instruments and as a teacher of woodwind instruments.
In 2010, Hovik traveled to Greece to work as a conductor and wind instrument musician in an orchestra. But in 2011, at the age of 22, he received an invitation to move to Barcelona and teach music at the Estudi de Música. He decided to take this great opportunity, as his parents had lived in that city for a long time. Now, Hovik gives private lessons, mainly for the duduk, and participates in concerts and national and international festivals.
Since 2017, Hovhannes has participated in the Orpheus XXI project as a musician and teacher. This is an intercultural, pedagogical, educational, and creative action project. He performs regularly as a duduk player in the renowned early music group Hespèrion XXI, directed by Jordi Savall.
