Evgenios Voulgaris: Modal language of the Eastern Mediterranean region

The workshop is open to all instruments.
We will explore the principles and practice of modal melodic language through musical examples from the Eastern Mediterranean region and contemporary compositions, fostering an experiential understanding of this rich tradition. As part of this exploration, we will also focus on the art of improvisation.

The goal of the workshop is to help participants develop a personal and insightful connection with the expressive power of modal melody — using it as a form of human language: understanding the past while speaking in the present.
