Miriam Encinas Laffitte: Percussion, Musicality & Traditional Rhythms
In this workshop, we will delve into the world of rhythm by exploring the concepts of circularity, movement, pattern, and sound. We will examine the role of percussion and its treatment in various musical styles from the Mediterranean and Central Asia, learning to feel rhythm from within — to recognize its structures, accents, and unique personality.
Through a selected repertoire, we will work on sound qualities, creativity, and the leading role of percussion instruments in creating arrangements. We will explore the interpretation of traditional rhythms and their variations, using instruments such as bendirs, daf, davul, riq, square frame drums, tambourines, spoons, among others.
Through individual and group dynamics, we will develop motor coordination, tempo, micro-pulsation, basic techniques for each instrument, timbre, improvisation, and rhythmic dialogue with melody — playing with binary, ternary, and polyrhythmic patterns.
Silence will play an essential role: as a space for focus, inner listening, and group connection, while deepening the relationship between body awareness and the integration of rhythm through simplicity.
