Murat Aydemir, Turkey’s celebrated Tanbur player and theorist, is widely recognized for his exceptional teaching ability and profound knowledge of Turkish music. With a career spanning decades, Aydemir has dedicated himself to imparting his expertise to aspiring musicians and passing over the rich cultural heritage of Turkish music.
In addition to his teaching activities, Aydemir has authored the acclaimed book “Turkish Music Makam Guide,” a comprehensive guide to the modal system of Turkish music. This publication, accompanied by CDs, serves as a valuable resource for students and scholars alike, offering a deeper insight into the complex melodic structures and improvisational techniques inherent in Turkish music.
Throughout his illustrious career, Aydemir has had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed figures in Turkish music, including Bekir Sidki Sezgin, Alaeddin Yavasca, Inci Cayirli, Erol Deran, Ihsan Ozgen, Cinucen Tanrikorur, and Necdet Yasar. His exceptional talent and dedication to the Tanbur have earned him recognition and acclaim both in Turkey and internationally. Aydemir has been a committed member of the Cultural Ministry’s Istanbul Government Classical Turkish Music Chorus since 1990.
