Chariton Charitonidis: Greek Traditional Dance / 1st Period / 12 – 16 April 2019 (with Katerina Papadopoulou)
The workshop will introduce the structure and the function of Greek traditional dance, the notion of which entails the lyrics (of the song), the melody and the movement. In this sense, we are going to learn the inextricable kinetic aspect of singing, focusing on different local “dialects” of this embodied “movement language”. The aim of this approach is to synthesize singing and dancing in a peculiar “movement choir” which balances between co-operation and (common or individual) improvisation. Furthermore, we will come across a selection of characteristic Greek tunes -deriving from the rural or urban context- interwoven with dance movement.
To make effective this dynamic, the workshop will feature the participation of the singer Katerina Papadopoulou and the students of the Greek singing seminar.
